Technical Support Frequently Asked Questions
What power tool models should I use to install CherryMAX® rivets?
The newest, smallest and lightest weight pneumatic tool is the G747. This tool and the G704B power riveter will install -4,-5 and -6 diameter CherryMax rivets, using the H701B-456 straight, H753A-456 right angle or H782 offset pulling heads. When using -8 diameter rivets, the larger G83 power riveter is needed. It uses the H84A-8 pulling head for -8 diameter rivets, and the H701B-456 pulling head with 744-300 adapter for -4, -5, and -6 diameter rivets. Right angle and offset tools are also available for this tool. All of these tools have been used for many years.
What hand tool models should I use to install CherryMAX® rivets?
The G750A is a hydraulic hand tool which installs the -4, -5, and -6 diameter CherryMAX® rivets. This is a hydraulic, one handed, pump type tool that weighs just 1.9 lbs. The G750A tool includes a straight pulling head. The G27 model is a small one-handed mechanical tool that installs the -4 diameter only. The G27 includes a pulling head.
Will my older CherryLOCK® tools pull CherryMAX® rivets?
Yes. A G784 or G684 model tool will pull the -4, -5, and -6 diameter CherryMAX® rivets using a H680B200A pulling head.
Will my CherryMAX® tools pull CherryLOCK® rivets?
No. The single action CherryMAX® tools will NOT pull the double action CherryLOCK® rivets. A double action tool must be used in order to insert the locking collar of the CherryLOCK®. Double action tools are the G784, and the G689 models with the H681 series pulling heads. The single action CherryMAX® tools will, however, install the CherryLOCK® "A" Code fastener. The "A" code signifies single action tooling with a special pulling head to seat the locking collar. For example, a single action G746A tool will install the CherryLOCK® "A" Code with an H955 series pulling head.
Can I order wiredraw CherryMAX® rivets to the NAS1398 and NAS1399 specifications?
Yes. There is a code in the part number that calls out the CherryMAX® type fastener under these specifications. The code is "AB", and is located in the part number as follows: NAS1398C4AB2. The "AB" is located between the diameter number and the grip number. All materials, strengths, and features remain the same, except that the rivet comes with the driving anvil above the rivet head to allow the use of single action tools.
What is the difference between CherryMAX® and the POP®-type rivets I can buy at my local hardware store?
The CherryMAX® blind rivet is a high-strength fastener specifically designed to withstand the stresses found in aerospace structures. The materials, manufacturing methods, and quality testing in every CherryMAX® product are all part of the Cherry Aerospace "system" to provide a safe, strong, and reliable fastener for the aerospace industry. In addition, CherryMAX® was designed to be especially simple to install. Neither specialized training for the rivet installer, nor complex tooling are needed to successfully install CherryMAX® rivets.
